William J. Burman, M.D.

Bill Burman, M.D., Interim, Chief Executive Officer, Denver Health and Hospital Authority. Dr. Burman is a Professor of Medicine (Division of Infectious Diseases) at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.  Dr. Burman joined Denver Public Health as an Infectious Disease Physician in 1995.  His early career focused on improving clinical care and developing better treatments for patients with HIV and tuberculosis.  Dr. Burman became Director of Denver Public Health in 2011, and his focus shifted to developing effective community collaborations to address key problems in Denver.  He helped lead the successful  effort to expand health insurance coverage in Denver through the Affordable Care Act.  He then helped form two structures to promote collaborative efforts to decrease health disparities: the Mile-High Health Alliance ( a collaboration of medical, behavioral, and social service providers in Denver) and the Denver Metro Partnership for Health (a collaboration of public health agencies across the metro area).  Dr. Burman’s passion is to use the size and breadth of Denver Health to help improve health in our community.
