Outstanding community voices empower Foundation vision

Denver Health Foundation welcomes three new members to the board of directors: Doug Friednash, Auna Jornayvaz, and Tim Wieland joined the Foundation board in January, with Doug serving as the new Foundation liaison to the Denver Health and Hospital Authority (DHHA) Board.

“We are thrilled that Doug, Auna, and Tim have joined the Denver Health Foundation board,” said Board Chair Josh Hanfling. “All have deep roots in Denver and will help to elevate the Foundation’s profile in our community, strengthening our commitment to Denver Health patients.”

Doug Friednash has more than 30 years’ experience in local and national public policy. He worked in the enforcement section of the office of the Colorado attorney general from 1988 to 1992 before serving in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1992 to 1996. Doug has also served as Denver city attorney under Mayor Michael Hancock and as Governor John Hickenlooper’s chief of staff from 2015 to 2017. A Denver native, he is an opinion columnist for The Denver Post, covering political stories and trends, as well as a partner in the law firm of Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck.

Auna Jornayvaz has spent more than 15 years as a journalist and research strategist working for magazines and lifestyle brands across Colorado, New York and Australia. She lived in Sydney, Australia for nearly eight years and has recently returned to Denver. Auna has worked for 5280 Magazine and Denver Magazine and, since 2020, has dedicated herself to writing and freelance editing. In addition to her new position on the Denver Health Foundation board, she also serves as a board member of the LARRK Foundation and is actively involved at The University of Denver and Mackintosh Academy.

Tim Wieland is President and General Manager at KCNC-TV (CBS4) in Denver. Since he joined CBS4, the News Department has received several industry honors, including the prestigious George Foster Peabody Award in 2006, three national Edward R. Murrow Awards, several regional Murrow Awards, including the award for Overall Excellence, and dozens of Emmy Awards. Tim also serves on the College of Media, Communication and Information board at the University of Colorado in Boulder. He has previously served on the boards of Raise the Future and Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver.

“Doug, Auna, and Tim are wonderful additions to our outstanding Denver Health Foundation board,” said Denver Health Foundation Executive Director Crystal Potter Rivera. “Their vision, insight, and experience will energize our outreach and fundraising efforts in 2023 and the years to come.”

Denver Health Foundation thanks outgoing board members Kevin Kauffman, Susan Powers, Franklin Rios, Dan Scherer, and the outgoing DHHA board liaison Hollie Velasquez Horvath, for their service to the Foundation.
