Impending royal birth inspires Denver shower for Newborns in Need

July 4, 2013

From The Denver Post: Excitement surrounding the mid-July birth of an heir to the British throne took a charitable twist when friends of the Denver Health Foundation filled EDGE restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel Denver for a Royal Luncheon and Baby Shower.

The gifts that everyone brought weren't destined for Kate Middleton and Prince William's soon-to-be-born bundle of joy, though. The diapers, onesies, powders and lotions went to Newborns in Need, which provides baskets of “newborn necessities” that the low-income, uninsured moms who've given birth at Denver Health Medical Center can take home.

Robin Engleberg, the director of Newborns in Need, summed things up rather nicely when she observed: “It's nice that the ladies here today can think about babies in need while celebrating a baby who needs nothing.”

Guests were encouraged to emulate the Duchess of Cambridge when deciding what to wear that day. As a result, there were plenty of hats, pastels and slim-fitting sheath dresses.
