A lifelong pursuit of equity and the belief that the furthest extent of kindness is justice drive MacKennea’s work as a Development Associate for Denver Health Foundation, where she is able to combine her project management and storytelling skills to represent Denver Health’s innovative and exceptional programs in the post-award process.

MacKennea grew up in Delta, Colorado and, prior to joining Denver Health Foundation, worked as a first-grade teacher in the Adams 12 School District, as the Grants Manager for Riverside Educational Center in Grand Junction, and as the Development Manager for the STRIVE Prep charter school network in Denver. Her background in education emphasized the need for preventative solutions to social problems, and honed her skills in adaptability, ​patience, and coaxing people out from under desks. MacKennea holds bachelor’s degrees in English Language & Composition and K-6 Education from the University of Colorado-Boulder. She is also a freelance writer for several Colorado-based publications, and loves running, mountain biking, and skiing.
