A note from the CEO

March 04, 2019

March 30th is fast approaching, with the celebration of Denver Health and its commitment to the residents of Denver at the Denver Health Foundation’s Annual NightShine Gala!  The evening promises to be fun, especially with entertainment by Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats.  I would love to personally speak to everyone attending, to express my thanks and gratitude for your support on behalf of the faculty, staff and patients of Denver Health.  You’ll see me wandering around – please stop me to say hello and give me the chance to thank you.

Last month, I shared some of Denver Health’s significant accomplishments of 2018.  This month, I’d like to highlight some of the exciting initiatives we’re working on in 2019:

• We continue to perform well on important quality metrics, we will continue to focus on driving even better quality results for our patients.  At the core of who we are is our commitment to the health and well-being of both our patients and the larger Denver community.
• Understanding the challenge that health care costs have for patients, families, employers and government, we are tackling reductions in clinical variation that may not add value to our patients but increase costs.  Denver Health is recognized as an excellent lower cost hospital, but we are excited by the prospect of reducing costs further while ensuring patients get the highest quality care possible.
• Denver Health is unique – as a safety net hospital that is dedicated to taking care of patients who often have complex illnesses and challenging life situations, we can help determine the best ways to deliver high-quality, cost-effective care across the community through our research division.  We pride ourselves on being a learning organization and helping other hospitals, near and far, with identifying and adopting best practices.
• The construction of our Outpatient Medical Center is a visible symbol of the work we do – treating patients from Denver and across the region who need primary and specialty care.  Our commitment to making sure everyone can get the health care they need, regardless of their ability to pay or personal circumstances, is an important part of the fabric of Denver.  Planning the best way to deliver this care will be a large part of our work this year.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the generous support of each of you.  I hope you get the chance to visit Denver Health and see the work that goes on, whether it’s helping people recover from addiction, take home a healthy baby, survive a traumatic injury, or simply preserve their current health status by seeing a provider at one of our clinics.
