Happy New Year from the CEO…

January 10, 2019

Happy New Year!  This is one of my favorite times of the year.  Being able to spend time reconnecting with friends and family and recharging from the busy lives we all lead is important, as is having the time to reflect on all the happenings of the prior year.  But what I like most is the sense of possibility – an entire new year stretched out in front of us, with the potential for all sorts of wonderful things to happen, for us to do the things we’ve been wanting to do and to make our lives what we desire.

Of course, things don’t always work out, but that sense of a new beginning, of the opportunity to make a difference, gives everyone just a little bit more energy.  For Denver Health, we look back on 2018 with pride.  During the year, we helped more than 3,000 babies enter the world, took care of almost 200,000 of Denver’s residents (1/3 of all folks living in Denver come to Denver Health for their care!) and reached into every part of our community.  We provided not just health care, but helped deal with family situations, housing needs, connections to community agencies, or sometimes just provided a moment of comfort and support to someone who needed it at that time.

We live in a society that seems more divided, angrier somehow.  Yet we at Denver Health are fortunate every single day to be able to put that aside and help a human being in need, whether they are a homeless vet, someone struggling with a drug addiction or a senior executive trying to balance their health with the stress of their job.  In 2019, Denver Health will continue doing what we have done for the last 160 years – be there when a need exists.  We are privileged to be part of this incredible community, to advocate for social justice and to help people as they make their own journey.

And we are deeply grateful to all of our supporters and donors who help us along the way!  May your new year be everything you hope for.
